MAYBE MONEY CAN MAKE YOU HAPPY?
This is the opportunity for your group to discover what God might be saying to you out of the
weekend experience, and how you can respond through a group discussion.
*These questions are designed to help you create meaningful conversations. Adjust the
questions as needed, and don’t feel like you need to answer all of them.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Talk about a time when you thought a material possession would make you happy (we’ve
all thought it). Did you acquire that possession? If so, how long did your happiness last?
2. What stood out to you most from the message this past weekend? What do you believe
God may be saying to you?
3. Have you ever met someone who was happy despite having little money? If so, what stood
out about that person?
Read Luke 16:13
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
4. This weekend, Curt explained that to be “devoted to” means to keep your eye on, or to
make all our decisions through the primary filter of what we’re devoted to. With that in mind,
what are some reasons we are tempted to being “devoted” to our money instead of God?
5. There’s a connection between money and happiness—but it’s not about how much you
have; it’s about how you manage what you have. When have you seen this play out in your
own life?
6. On a scale of 1-10, to what extent does discontentment currently drive your behavior and
undermine your sense of peace with 1 begin “not at all” and 10 being “all the time?”
7. During the message, Curt said, “Giving will bring you joy, saving will you bring peace, and
living on the rest will bring you freedom.”
Is it difficult for you to believe that? Why or why not?
If you’ve experienced any of these three parts, share what that was like?
Wrap It Up Close with Prayer.
You can say something like, “God, thank you for giving us
wisdom on how to approach our money in a way that will help us to live with more joy and
peace. Teach us to follow you and show us where we can take steps to more fully trust you
this week.”
