Let’s be honest, we’ve all blown it! Spouted off, blew a gasket, even damaged or strained a relationship because of our over-reaction. And while our actions rarely tell the whole story, our reactions definitely do.

This is why this next series is for all of us!

Join as we us as we look at and learn from the life of Jesus and how he shows us we can leverage reactions for good.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Share something you’ve witnessed, read, or heard about that was inspiring because it was so opposite of what was expected.
What typically causes you to overreact? Why do you think this is?
Read Matthew 5:38–48. What part of that passage stands out to you most? Why?
If a reaction is an opportunity, can you think of an opportunity you missed recently? Or one that might have required an apology?
What reaction pattern can you leverage this week as an opportunity to reflect God’s unexpected reaction to your shortcomings? What makes it so difficult and/or risky for you to do this?
Wrap It Up. Close with Prayer. You can say something like, “God, thank you for the gift of other people. Help me to to o let my light shine in such a way that through our reactions this week people would go stop and stare, and look up and see you! Amen.”

Share about an over-reaction you saw or experienced this week and what you believe to be the “driver” behind that reaction.

A personal story from your homework and where you implemented an over-under reaction. What was the result?

2. What stood out to you most from the message this past weekend? What do you believe God may be saying to you?

3. Can you recall a time when you gave someone undue power over you by your reaction?

4. In what arena of life do you struggle most with your reactions? What is it about your story or personality that contributes to that?

5. This past weekend, Curt reference a quote from Dr Charles Stanley, “My responsibility is to obey God and leave the outcomes to Him.” What is your initial response to this?

6. Read 1 Peter 2:21–23, where Peter is telling Jesus followers to imitate Jesus by not retaliating when they are mistreated. How is that possible? Are we not supposed to do anything when treated unfairly?

7. How would you react if you were confident God knew and was with you?

8. Wrap It Up. Ask the group to share a relationship or area that they would like pray on this week as we work to live out and master the over-under reaction. Host, close the group in prayer.

Hey people, let’s kick things off getting honesty and authentic…whether last night or last , last month or last year, when was the last time you overreacted And, what prompted the over-reaction?

What stood out to you most from the message this past weekend? What do you believe God may be saying to you?

Do you know someone who is a great over-underreactor? What makes you think that about them?

Do you know anyone who resists Christianity because of how a Christian reacted to them or how Christians react in general?

If to react is to submit or give up control to someone else, what emotions do you occasionally submit to that have no business ruling over you? Anger? Jealousy? Insecurity? Fear? Something else?

Read Romans 8:31–32 aloud. Is there someone you consider your enemy? Is there an opportunity to change your posture toward them based on what Paul says here?

What reaction pattern can you leverage this week to display your confidence that God is with you and for you?

Wrap It Up. Close with Prayer. You can say something like, “God, thank you for modeling what it looks like to over-under react, even in the midst of pushback and difficult circumstances. Give us the same humility and love you have, so we can share it and reflect it with the people around us. Amen.”
