EXPERIMENT 1

If you attended First Wednesday on May 4, you heard Curt talk about providing “experiments” to help move the needle of your faith. Here’s the first installment.

OPTION 1:  THE LOVE DARE

If you are married, engaged, or living together, begin & complete the 40-Day Love Dare Challenge by picking up The Love Dare Journal. These are available at Connection Point or under “This Week” (Resources Button) in the Crosspoint App. Begin this experiment within one week. This is an individual exercise and does not have to be done with your spouse or partner.

OPTION 2:  GIVE IN

You’ve probably heard those old sayings about going the extra mile and turning the other cheek. These come straight from the Bible, where Jesus gives us concrete examples of what it looks like to be a servant. Letting go of our own agendas makes room in our lives for God to show us the great stuff he has in store. Complete this experiment within one week.

Read:  Matthew 5:38-42

(This is from “The Message” translation – available for free in the “YouVersion Bible App” in the app stores)

“Here’s another old saying that deserves a second look: ‘Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.’ Is that going to get us anywhere? Here’s what I propose: ‘Don’t hit back at all.’ If someone strikes you, stand there and take it. If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, gift wrap your best coat and make a present of it. And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously.”

EXPERIMENT:

Each day this week, be on the lookout for one place where you’re fighting to get your way — and intentionally give in. Spend a few minutes at the end of the day writing in a journal (or e-journal by emailing yourself) about what happened. Also, feel free to start a discussion in the Comments section below. We want to here your stories and how God is growing you. Faith is a community thing.

(Tip: Here are some places where it sure feels nice to get your own way: during rush hour, waiting in line and arguing with a Patriots fan, with a close family member, in choosing where to go to dinner…)
