Whether you’re thinking about stopping by for just one Sunday or you’re interested in sticking with us for a while, we’re glad you’re checking out CROSSPOINT KIDS. Here are a few things that could be helpful to know before you get here.
ARRIVING A BIT EARLY is a good idea on your first day with us. It’ll take a couple minutes to fill out registration information for your child[ren]… it’s a safety thing!
WE MEET DURING all worship gatherings (Thursday at 7:15pm and Sunday at 9:30 & 11am). If you’re needed, we’ll contact you via a number page system that our Checkpoint volunteers will explain… it’s easy. (Student [7-12 grades] activities are held at separate times. Students are encouraged to join adults in the auditorium for Worship Gatherings.)
ON SUNDAYS, KIDS WILL EXPERIENCE relationships with volunteers and age-appropriate programming, learning the story of God and the way of Jesus. Kids of all ages engage in both small- and large-group activities where they learn that their identity is in Christ, that they have belonging in the Church, and that they have a role to play in God’s mission.
WE LOVE WELCOMING VISITORS on Thursdays and Sundays and we hope you’ll join us sometime. Don’t be surprised if your child[ren] want to hang out a little longer than expected… the KIDS areas are a lot of fun!
WAUMBA NURSERY // AGES 0-17 months
Rocks, cuddles, hugs, and lots of exciting things to play with…
For babies, this means simply giving lots of love. Don’t forget to bring diapers, bottles, pacifiers, and any special blankets that will soothe your baby through the morning. Remember to label all items that belong to your child. We want to make sure they get all their adorable items back.
For toddlers this is a safe environment to play with others and hear stories about God and his love. There are also lots of interactive things for them to explore and investigate.
WAUMBA LAND // AGES 18 months-3.5(ish)
This new environment is a combination of what you may see in both our nursery and preschool rooms: a VERY short story and stations, similar to the preschool room, with lots of time to play like the nursery.
WAUMBA PRE-K // AGES 3.5-5(ish)
Silly songs, great stories, and interactive activities…
Children transition to the preschool room on their third birthday. In the preschool room kids learn that “God loves me, God made me, and Jesus wants to be my friend forever.”
Each week your children will learn a Bible story and be involved in lots of interactive projects and activities that teach one key truth for the month. At the end of the hour, parents receive a “Small Talk” sheet that tells what kids talked about and how connections can be made at home.
UpStreet // K-4th Grade
Cool dance moves, engaging stories, fun and interactive activities… everything in UpStreet is created just for kids. We are committed to showing kids a great time, while showing them God’s love and what He wants for their lives.
THERE ARE THREE BASICS TRUTHS WE FOCUS ON…
WISDOM: I need to make the wise choice.
FAITH: I can trust God no matter what.
FRIENDSHIP: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
Each month, we focus on a different virtue that is related to a Bible story and then how it can be applied to kids’ lives. At the end of each hour, parents are given a “Fridge Card” that gives moms and dads info about what we’ve covered and how they can make connections at home… because we all know kids don’t have a lot to say about what they do… even if they’ve just done something really fun!
Area56 has everything 5th and 6th graders want…a place to hang out with friends and talk. Not just talk about anything, but about real life issues and what God says about them. These kids are a little too old for UpStreet so we’ve given them their own space.
Area56 kids can check themselves into class but parents must pick them up/check them out of class. Yes, we know that may not seem cool for 5th and 6th graders… but, we’re okay with that.
The following are common questions we hear in Crosspoint Kids. If you have a question and find that it’s not addressed here or on our other Kids pages, or if you’d like to request additional information, we invite you to contact us or stop by Kids Check-In on a Sunday.
What do you believe? What do you teach the kids?
We believe that God has revealed himself through history and is working within our lifetime to fulfill his purposes for all creation. The Bible tells the story of God’s work in the world: how he created the world, how he made humankind in his own image, what went wrong with humanity, and how, through Jesus Christ, God set out to restore people and all creation to himself. Crosspoint Kids tells God’s story and invites kids to enter into it: following the way of Jesus and joining the work that God is doing in the world.
When do the kids classes meet?
What are the kids’ programs like on Thursday & Sunday?
Through relationships with volunteers and age-appropriate programming, children learn the way of Jesus. Kids of all ages engage in both small- and large- group activities where they learn that their identity is in Christ, that they have belonging in the Church, and that they have a role to play in God’s mission.
What measurements are in place to make Crosspoint Children’s Environments a safe place?
Our check-in and check-out procedures [including a parent/child scan tag system] are in place to ensure that no child is removed from the Kids’ Areas by any person other than the one who dropped off the child. Background screenings are also required for all staff and volunteers serving in Children’s Environments. Along with this, since our volunteers serve regularly, their familiarity with Crosspoint families often serves as an additional safety measure.
Do I need to register my child(ren) before we come to Crosspoint?
No. While you are welcome to contact our children’s ministry in advance of your first morning with us, we will be able to register your child[ren] on Sunday when you arrive. Allowing yourself a few extra minutes to fill out a short form for each child is all the preparation you’ll need.
If I’m needed during service or my child needs to be picked up early, how will I be notified?
If during the Kids program our staff and volunteers determine that a child should be picked up early, the parent/child name tag number will be flashed on the main screens in The Venue. The parent/guardian with the matching name tag number will then be permitted to enter the Kids’ Areas and pick up the child, and the number will be taken down from the auditorium screens.
Why do you practice Child dedications rather than infant baptism?
Child dedication and infant baptism are practices in which parents make a solemn commitment to raising their child in the faith. While the meaning of infant baptism varies somewhat among denominations, it often involves parents baptizing the child as an infant, then when the child grows up and decides to follow Jesus, the child makes a profession of faith. We believe that water baptism is a sign/symbol of a person’s professing faith, and as a result feel it is confusing to perform water baptism on infants. Instead, we practice child dedications on infants and young children, and when a child makes the choice to follow Jesus, they have the opportunity to declare their commitment to Jesus through baptism.
Can I dedicate my child at Crosspoint?
Yes! Child dedication is available to any parent or guardian who wishes to declare their intent to raise a child to know Jesus as the only hope for bringing reconciliation between God and humanity. (Although most often it is infants who are dedicated, dedication can be done for older children as well.)
Are there environments for middle & high school students on Thursday & Sunday?
Students 7 -12 grades are invited to participate in our worship gatherings and/or also volunteer in one of the many roles available on a Sunday morning. Programming for these students meet on Monday nights at 7pm. For more information and meeting locations, please contact the Coy, our Director of Student Environments.
