2.23+26.23 – Week 827 – Curt Walters – “It’s time to Re:New”
This weekend Curt Walters shows us that the first step in experiencing a renewing is in our hearts.
Small Group Guide
Week 1: It’s Time To Renew
- The RENEW Initiative has begun. What is one in you’ve renewed, refurbished, restored or refinished. Why did you do it? What was the result?
- The RE:NEW Initiative begins with our hearts — where is one area in your life you have been dry or barren and would like God to renew in you over these next 5 weeks.
The Prophet says encourages us: (ISAIAH 43:19-20)
“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. - Is there any part of this verse that hard for you to believe or to trust? What role might the past, old history, have on this for you?
- Where do you see it? Are you currently seeing or experiencing a renewing in your life, our church, somewhere else?
- What was one insight or discovery through your journaling or prayer and fasting you have had this week that you’d be willing to share with the group?
- What renewing do you want to see in our church and what role are you willing to play in fueling that?
3.2+5.23 – Week 828 – Curt Walters – “Beautiful Surrender”
Curt Walters helps us discover how surrender is part of renewing.
Small Group Guide
Week 2: Beautiful Surrender
The RENEW Initiative is about renewing our hearts, our live and our engagement in and to the mission God has in front of us at Crosspoint. This week, we’re looking at how Jesus, our Heavenly Leader, teaches us a powerful, counter-intuitive dynamic or renewing called surrender.
1.The RENEW Initiative has begun. What is one thing good thing God has been revealing to you so far in the RE:NEW Initiative?
Have someone read Matthew 25:14-27
- What jumps out to you about this story?
- In every parable, one of the characters is you and one of the characters is God. Who do you see yourself as, a five-bagger, you see yourself in this story? Why did you choose this one?
This weekend Curt mentioned 6 realities in the spiritual realm that this parable shows us. As you hear this, think about which reality you most identify with and which one you most struggle with:
GOD OWNS EVERYTHING
GOD ENTRUSTS UNEQUALLY
GOD IS VERY GENEROUS TO US
GOD HOLDS ALL TRUSTEES ACCOUNTABLE
GOOD & FAITHFUL TRUSTEES PROVIDE A RETURN
LAZY TRUSTEES ALWAYS HAVE AN EXCUSE
- Which reality Jesus shows do you most identify with? Which one do you struggle with?
5. What might God be wanting to teach, show, reveal or help you discover through this parable?
- Have you ever surrendered something to God and it brought freedom (to you or to others)? What did this look like for you?
- Have you attended a RENEW Vision Briefing? If not, will you plan to attend one? RSVP at crosspointweb.org/renew
3.9+12.23 – Week 829 – Curt Walters – “How Do I Hear From God?”
Curt Walters helps us discover how surrender is part of renewing.
Small Group Guide
Week 3: How Do I Hear From God?
- We all have done it – we’ve all set some time aside to hear something. Share about a time you set some time aside to hear something – a favorite song, a concert, a news story, the weather forecast? As you think about that moment- what pre-work had to be done to accomplish this (don’t overthink it)?
Has someone read out loud 1 Samuel 3 1-10
https://www.bible.com/bible/111/1SA.3.1-10.NIV - What jumps out to you about this story?
- Creating space is the first step in hearing from God. This week we’ve had times to create space through Prayer and Fasting, or other individual experiences to seek God’s heart. Is there anything you heard from God in this time that you are willing to share with the group?
- Reading and reflecting on God’s character through scripture is another way we hear from God and can discern his voice. Look back through this past week’s Journal entries in your RENEW Prayer Journal. Share something you discovered or heard from God in this time in our Journal this week.
- Community is a third way we hear from God. Is there anything you’ve heard or been prompted, spurred on, encouraged in through your experience in community with others running in the same direction this week?
- This weekend is The RENEW 24 HOUR PRAYER EXPERINECE which will be a time to lengthen the listen and hear from God. It begins 7am Saturday, March 18 through 7am Sunday, March 19. Discuss as a group about when you plan to participate in the prayer experience or even attending together.
- Have you attended a RENEW Vision Briefing? If not, will you plan to attend one? RSVP at crosspointweb.org/renew
3.16+19.23 – Week 830 – Curt Walters – “Let’s Go: Do It”
Curt Walters talks about specifics in the RENEW initiative and how it will requires all of us.
Small Group Guide
Week 4: Let’s Go: Do it
The RENEW Initiative is about renewing our hearts, our live and our engagement in, and to the mission God has in front of us at Crosspoint. Growing in a relationship with God requires action. If you come to terms with a belief that you want to eliminate, but don’t take action on it, nothing happens. If you tell God you want his guidance but then politely decline, your relationship is stagnant. We want to all be action oriented, because action means growth.
Let’s get started with a little warm-up:
1. In addition to God’s Grace, take a moment and thing about what the most extravagant gift is, you’ve ever received. When did you receive it, and what made it extravagant? Whoever’s birthday is closest to today, you go first.
This week you spent some time categorizing your “Surrender List” into four categories:
- Keep & enjoy
- Go without for a season to free up some resources
- Change to free up some resources
- Not sure yet
Take 30 minutes and discuss the following questions with the group:
2. As you worked through this exercise, is there anything that surprised you?
3. Was there anything that you heard clearly on from God?
4. What is your biggest concern or struggle as you process your participation in the RE:NEW Initiative that our group may be able to speak into?
(This is our chance to be of encouragement with each other or share about our experiences).
Jesus said, “Where your treasure, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21)
Let’s talk about how we see this play out in our lives:
5. What at things that you fund, that you also pay close attention to? And why is that? (your mortgage, your car, boat, RV, kids sports, health club, etc)
6. This past weekend, Curt said “Generosity is not about money, it’s about trust.” What do you think God is growing or building in you as you think about making a RE:NEW Financial commitment?
Wrap-Up:
This weekend we’re going to be asking everyone who calls Crosspoint home to simply “do” whatever it is that God is asking you to bring to the RE:NEW Initiative. You’ll have the opportunity to make a financial commitment and a time commitment. God is inviting us to be part of what he is doing and we’re going to get a front row seat to see Him work in and through us. Don’t miss this opportunity.
3.23+26.23 – Week 831 – Curt Walters – “Commit”
Curt Walters talks about the commitment and acting on that call.
Small Group Guide
Week 5: Commit
1. This past weekend was commitment weekend in the RE:NEW Initiative. What did it feel like? What are you feeling right now?
Re-read the opening paragraph above, then answer the following questions:
- What stands out to you?
- What does this mean to you personally?
- How has being part of this movement grown you, changed you?
- The RE:NEW Initiative is really just beginning. What is something that God has been renewing in your life, faith, or relationship with him? How are you taking action on this.
Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-7The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver.
- What are you hoping to see and experience as a result of your generosity… in other words, what do you want to reap, as Paul says?
Wrap-Up:
If you have not yet made a RE:NEW Financial Commitment and Volunteer Commitment, there’s still time. God invites you to be part of what he is doing and to get a front row seat to see Him work in and through us. Join the movement at crosspointweb.org/renew
3.30+4.2.23 – Week 832 – Abbie Craig – “Moving Forward”
Abbie Craig talks about moving forward on the things God calls us to and the renewing we experience when we lean in.
Small Group Guide
Week 6: Moving Forward
There’s something that happens when we move forward with the plans our Heavenly Leader has for us!
Jesus knew a bit about making an entrance into something significant and the opportunity, euphoria and challenges that come. He gets us.
We continue to run after the amazing opportunity in front of us. This is an all skate, with the potential of something amazing! When you’re running after God, you’re running in the right direction.
1-This weekend is Easter! Everybody share about your favorite current Easter tradition or one of your favorites as a kid?
2- Share about a time when you second guessed a big decision. What happened? Did the second guessing pay off or prevent you from moving forward?
Last week we looked at the final entrance into Jersusalem Jesus made. This is often celebrated as Palm Sunday. While the crowds were excited, Jesus knew the decisions and path that was in front of him that would lead to the cross. Abbie gave us three ways we can go forward from the life of Jesus, in the midst of these moments:
- Don’t let fear make decisions for you
- Step up, not back
- Stay The Course
3- Which of these 3 do you need to lean into with a decision or circumstances you are facing right now?
4- Which of these 3 do you tend to be most impacted/influenced by as you think about choosing to be part of the RENEW Initiative by making a 3-Year Financial Commitment and Volunteer Commitment? Why?
5- What do you need today? Is there anything this group can do to be of help or support for you right now?
6-This weekend is Easter! Take one minute to write down three names that come to mind that perhaps need an invite to Easter at Crosspoint. Make a plan on when and how you will invite them to come sit with you or watch with you.
Wrap up
If you have not yet made a RE:NEW Financial Commitment and Volunteer Commitment, there’s still time. God invites you to be part of what he is doing and to get a front row seat to see Him work in and through us. Join the movement at crosspointweb.org/renew
4.13+16.23 – Week 834 – Curt Walters – “RENEW CELEBRATION”
Curt Walters shares about the momentum building in the RENEW Initiative and the big reveal.
Small Group Guide
Week 7: RENEW CELEBRATION
It’s Celebration week in The RENEW Initiative! Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion. Let’s jump in.
- What was the last thing you celebrated and what made it memorable?
- Celebration is a moment to reflect and recognize progress, change and goodness. In what ways did God surprise you or overwhelm you during the RENEW Initiative? (this could be with his grace, in an new understanding, in gratitude, or some other way)
In Philippians 1:6, the Apostle Paul says,
“He who began this good work in you will be faithful to complete it”
3. What has God began or continued in you through these past 7 weeks?
4.Why do you believe this is needed and needed now in your life?
-Answer one of these two questions:
-How have you experienced this camaraderie and community?
-How can this group pray for you and encourage you?
5. This past weekend, Curt shared that there’s a camaraderie and community that only comes when people are sweating and sacrificing side-by-side for a common goal. Answer one of the following questions:
- How have you experienced this camaraderie and community ?
- How have you experienced this camaraderie in the RENEW experience?
- What are you most excited about? 6. There is still time. If you’ve not yet participated in making a RENEW Commitment, you can text the word “RENEW” to 317-834-3737
