Beginning, March 15+18, you should’ve received a starter kit on your way out of service and that’s when the hoopla begins. We’ll be saving our cash by eating beans and rice (or eat out of your pantry and create a savings by purchasing as little food as possible), then investing that money in two great efforts that are creating church in new places.
If this is your first year or if you’d like to get inspired from a few sweet recipes, learn more HERE to recipes.
If you have dietary restrictions, or maybe a pre-planned birthday dinner, then by all means do what makes sense for you.
HOW IT WORKS
Include beans and rice on your shopping list. Tip: canned beans are easier to prepare since dry beans require soaking them for 24 hours. Eat beans and rice for as many meals as possible for the week end starting March 15+18. Go “Thursday to Thursday” or “Sunday to Sunday” or anything in between. Just pick something and participate and save the cash you’d normally spend on food. The following weekend, you can give that cash in one of four ways:
- Write a check. Put “beans and rice” on the memo line and bring your check to service on Sunday, March 29 & drop it in the JOY BOX.
- Bring cash.It doesn’t matter if it’s a pile of fives or a crap-load of dimes, you can dump it in the JOY BOX.
- Give (early) at Crosspointweb.org Simply click on the “GIVE” button in the upper right hand corner in the menu bar. Select “One-Time Gift” (you’ll be asked to log in or to create a login), and select “Beans and Rice” or type “Beans and Rice” in the notes line.
- Give (early) via the CROSSPOINT APP.Jump in the handy dandy XPT app and in the dropdown menu, select “GIVE” … then follow the prompts to complete a donation. Click the “Beans & Rice Designation” or type “Beans and Rice” in the notes line.
100% goes to our Beans & Rice Partners
100% of the the funds received will go to these two ministry organizations who are busy multiplying the church into new places.
100. Period. End of story. No questions asked. For real.
UNITED CITY CHURCH – 50%
We are partnering in the launch of a brand new church community in the Indianapolis mid-town / North Broad Ripple area, names United City Church. Josh Wagner, lead pastor, is planning the launch of United City in the Fall of 2018 with a vision to create a Gospel-saturated movement of unity in diversity that begins in United City Church and moves throughout our city. Our vision is to create a credible witness in this increasing cynical and diverse world. 50% of the funds that come in through Beans and Rice week will provide additional start-up funding to help launch United City Church.
Church Planting in Nepal through ServLife – 50%
The Gospel of Jesus brings hope, restoration and healing like nothing else can, and through the ServLife training school, pastors are equipped and empowered to start churches throughout north India and Nepal.
For every $2500 toward the Nepal Church Planting Project, we will fund a new church. This includes training a pastor, resourcing the launch of the church, and providing vocational training to the pastor with a micro-finance business loan to start their own side business that won’t be too time consuming but will allow them to have a livable income. 50% of the funds that are generated through Beans and Rice week will go toward funding new church plants in Nepal.
YOUR TO-DO LIST
- Eat beans & rice for as many meals as you can MARCH 15-25 and save the cash you’d normally spend on food. If a typical lunch looks like a $7.00 Italian Night Club sub from Jimmy Johns, and one meal’s worth of beans & rice ends up costing you 50 cents, then you give the $6.50 difference for that meal. Repeat and continue throughout the week. This math is so simple, even musicians can do it.
- Make this page part of your daily routine and check back for inspiration and family tips.
- Give as you go OR save your cash throughout the week.
On the weekend of MARCH 22+25, we’ll pool our cash together during weekend services. And we’ll announce the total amount on the weekend of APRIL 12+15.
